Are you concerned about the proposed closure of Wood Road Surgery?

There was a public meeting at Christ Church on 11 July which was attended by 200 plus residents who came along to voice how much Wood Road surgery means to them.

We do know the #FightgoesOn to #Savewoodrdsurgery

If we don’t act, the surgery will close.

Getting involved will make all the difference.

Elderly – please make your voice heard! Young families – please make your voice heard!

Current and former patients and Professionals – please make your voice heard!

The main arguments for closure seem to be:

* Lack of GPs and they are not attracting new ones

* Since 2015 the rent of Wood Road has gone up 400%

You can still sign the petition in any of the local shops in Tettenhall, Compton or Tettenhall Wood or online https://www.ipetitions.com/petition/save-wood-road-surgery-tettenhall-wood ( or follow savewoodrdsurgery on Facebook or @wood_rd on Twitter ) you can email us for more information on savewoodrdsurgery@gmail.com

Concerns have been raised that the closure of Wood Road Surgery would severely compromise availability and accessibility of primary health care for its patients many of whom rely on walking or public transport to attend appointments with their GP. Elderly patients with poor mobility and mothers with young children are going to be the worst affected. Parking at Lower Green is already difficult and is bound to get worse if more patients were seen at that site. In addition, there is a real worry that the closure of the surgery would eventually lead to the closure of the chemist in Tettenhall Wood in the future. Some local businesses are also worried about a possible decline in footfall in the area. Eleanor Smith MP is supporting local residents in their wish to retain GPs at Wood Road and has written to the WCCG ( Wolverhampton Clinical Commissioning Group ) to inform them of the concerns raised above.

The consultation on the proposed closure began on Tuesday 7 May 2019 and is due to end on Sunday 28 July 2019.

We, the patients of Tettenhall Wood Clinic feel that it is essential to keep a surgery open within easy reach of the citizens of Tettenhall Wood, many of whom rely on public transport or walking to access healthcare free at the point of need.

With the ongoing expansion of retirement accommodation in the area and the accompanying increase in the elderly population, this is becoming ever more important.

As much as we are aware of the shortage of GPs, we urge that every effort continues to be made to recruit doctors for the clinic and that meanwhile the surgery be kept open with skeleton staffing. For the most part, we are very happy with the services provided at Tettenhall Wood and cannot see that an equivalent service could be provided through just one surgery at Lower Green, seeing around 12,000 patients. We fear that accessibility and ready availability of care would be severely compromised and therefore request the healthcare providers to make every effort to retain a clinic in Tettenhall Wood and to keep the public informed of their endeavours.
